Getting Started

There are many things to consider before balancing any HVAC system. I cant stress enough the importance of having all the necessary data and information needed to start the project. The following list will help to prepare you for any job:

  • Get all equipment submittal, job specifications book, and mechanical drawings.
  • Read your TAB specification section.
  • Have all A/C, exhaust, outlet and inlet, ext. sheets filled in with as much information as possible.(submittal data, grille designs, ext.)
  • Label all A/C units and grilles on prints completely.
  • Walk your job at different stages of construction to get familiar with the project and to find any installation errors.
  • Talk with contractors involved with your project on a regular basis to establish a good working relationship.
  • Make sure that all equipment has power and startup has been completed.
  • Before balancing any unit check it over carefully to insure that filters and coils are clean. Fan rotation must also be checked.

When all of these items have been checked you will be ready to start the balancing process. Lets move on to the "Duct Traverse" tutorial.
